Removal

Being the most drastic and permanent decision, we want to make sure that you, the customer, have been given all the information possible to make the right decision for when it is best to remove a tree. We will also present all the options for tree removal to make sure you get the best results for the best price.

Top five reasons to remove a tree

  1. The tree is dead or dying and poses a safety risk
  2. Home maintenance issues like intrusive roots or over-shading of property
  3. New Construction
  4. Storm Damage
  5. Fire Safety

Pruning

Early pruning of your trees is an essential way to keep your trees looking beautiful. This ensures that you are giving them the best chance to thrive. Trees take longer to recover from stress the older they get so providing early structural pruning can insure a much better chance of a healthy mature tree. The early snows in Alaska can be devastating on trees, and pruning offers the best way to make sure that your trees are up to the challenge. Pruning also allows the training of younger trees to help guide them away from obstacles such as buildings and power lines.Pruning is an art to make sure that the right choices are made for the long term health of the tree.

Why we never wear spurs when we prune

An older practice of tree climbing techniques when they were in their infancy was to use spikes or spurs to enter the tree to prune them. What this does is create an open wound every time the spur enters the tree. This allows insects and disease an easy path into the tree. The healing process takes energy away from the tree that it needs for other purposes, especially in the short Alaskan growing season. Aesthetically trees also suffer because of the wounds that are left on the tree. PTS is skilled in advanced tree entry techniques that make the use of spurs obsolete.

Cabling/Bracing

Cabling involves placing a cable connecting two or more leads of a tree together. This is done to reinforce weak crotches that may fail during a storm or are showing signs of decay.Installing a cable is the best way to minimize the risk and is an option rather than removal of the tree. Bracing is the inserting of a rod through the crotch of a tree to help reinforce the cable above. Cabling can be done without bracing but a brace should never be installed without a cable.

Stump Removal

Once a tree has been removed, the remaining stump will act as an eye-sore for many years to come.Stump removal is the perfect way to either reclaim the area for your lawn or to plant another tree or shrub. Paulʼs Tree Service is able to access most stumps with our grinders, even those in backyards.

Planting

The most important thing to consider when planting a tree is location, location and location. Insuring that the right spot for a tree is chosen from the start means much less maintenance pruning in the future. PTS will help you select the right tree for your property and will also make sure that it is planted correctly so as to be given the greatest chance at success.
